Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE)

(including Relationships & Sex Education)

As part of your child’s education at our school, we promote personal wellbeing and development through our Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) curriculum. This gives our children the knowledge, understanding and skills to lead healthy, safe and productive lives. You may be aware that the Department for Education has announced changes to the relationships and sex education for all primary and secondary schools in the UK. These changes came into effect in the summer term, 2021. All schools are required to comply with the updated changes.

The statutory guidance can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/relationships-sex-and-health-education-guides-for-schools.

The new guidance focuses on healthy relationships and keeping children safe in the modern world. It also covers a range of topics relating to physical and mental health, wellbeing and safeguarding. Learning about the emotional, social and physical aspects of growing up gives children the information and positive values to have safe and fulfilling relationships and help them take responsibility for their own wellbeing.

Parents and carers cannot withdraw children from relationships education or any content that is covered in the science curriculum.

Our new scheme documents can all be found by clicking on the links below.

As this is a new scheme for 2024, we will be sharing this with parents, alongside our updated PSHRE policy.

Any sections in the mixed age planning documents in red will not be taught without first consulting with parents, such as our Puberty talk last year, which was well received by both Y5/6 pupils and their parents.

In the meantime, if you have any further questions, do not hesitate to contact Mrs Uttley (Headteacher).
